Oklahoma City Baseball Club 10, Chihuahuas 3

Key Statistics: RF Brandon Lockridge 1-for-4, 2 R, BB; 3B Eguy Rosario 2-for-4, R, BB; DH Tirso Ornelas 1-for-4, 2B, BB, RBI; RHP Jared Kollar (L, 2-2) 1.1 IP, 6 H, 7 ER, 3 BB, K; RHP Lake Bachar IP, 2 H, ER, BB; RHP Francis Pena IP; LHP Tom Cosgrove, IP, K; RHP Alek Jacob IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 K, BB

Prospect Watch: The OKC Baseball Club scored seven runs in the first two innings, cruising to a victory at home. … When the Padres placed shortstop Ha-Seong Kim on the injured list Tuesday, many fans assumed that versatile Eguy Rosario would be the obvious choice to replace him on the big league roster. However, the organization recalled Matthew Batten, perhaps in part because of Rosario’s recent struggles at the plate. The El Paso third baseman had been mired in an ugly slump, hitting just .118/.196/.255 with a K-rate north of 30 percent. He bounced back Tuesday, collecting a pair of singles and a walk in the loss. Prior to August, Rosario was sporting an OPS over 1.000; his slump has dropped his overall OPS to .852. … Righty Jared Kollar turned in his worst start of the season and took his second Triple-A loss. The former undrafted free agent from Rutgers lasted just 1.1 innings, allowing seven runs on six hits. He walked three and struck out one. The poor outing came on the heels of a fairly successful run for Kollar. Coming into Tuesday’s start, he allowed just five runs over 17.1 innings in his last three starts. Kollar has a 5.87 ERA in four starts with the Chihuahuas. He’s already thrown nearly 20 more innings than he did in his full-season debut last year and is on track to lead the Padres minor league system this year. … Tom Cosgrove continued his excellent run, pitching a scoreless inning while notching a strikeout. The former big leaguer has been excellent in seven outings this month. Over eight innings of work, the 28-year-old has not allowed a run while walking four and striking out 12. The left-hander has struggled mightily this year – both in the majors and the minors – but recently, he has been getting much more vertical movement on his pitches to look more like the player who pitched to a 1.75 ERA in 54 games for the Padres a season ago.

Missions 6, Frisco RoughRiders 2

Key Statistics: CF Connor Hollis 2-for-5, 2 R, 2B; DH Romeo Sanabria 3-for-4, R, 2B, BB, 2 RBI; LF Cole Cummings 2-for-5, 2 R, RBI; 3B Marcos Castañon 2-for-4, R, HR (11), RBI; RHP Henry Baez (W, 3-0) 5 IP, 6 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K; RHP Carter Loewen IP, 2 H, K; LHP Ryan Och (S, 2) 1.2 IP, 4 K

Prospect Watch: The Missions scored four times in the first inning and cruised to a win against Frisco on the road. … Romeo Sanabria had a three-hit night, including his first Double-A two-bagger. The 22-year-old first baseman/designated hitter has swung a hot bat since being promoted to San Antonio, hitting .415/.490/.512 with a double, a homer, and 13 RBI in 12 games. The big first baseman has had a breakout campaign this season, hitting a combined .306/.412/.463 between Lake Elsinore, Fort Wayne, and San Antonio this season. … Third baseman Marcos Castañon connected on a two-run homer in the first inning as part of a multi-hit night. The homer was Castañon’s 11th dinger of the season. The Rialto, California native has shown plenty of pop throughout his time in the system, reaching double-digits in homers in each of his first three full seasons. His average on balls in play is 70 points lower than last year, which has resulted in a 60-point drop in batting average. Despite the struggles at the plate, the 25-year-old’s power potential gives him a chance. … Righty Henry Baez turned in another solid outing, earning his third win as a Mission. The righty pitched five innings, allowing a pair of runs on six hits. He walked two and struck out four. The 21-year-old has a 2.22 ERA in five starts with the Missions. While the ERA is impressive, Baez came into Tuesday’s start with an unsustainable 96% strand rate as a Mission. His strikeout rate has also been down since being promoted to Double-A, but he’s been able to make pitches when he needs to. … Ryan Och recorded five outs, four by way of the K. The 26-year-old has been a very underrated weapon for the Missions this year. In 13 appearances, spanning 22 innings, Och has a 2.86 ERA while walking just six and striking out 35 batters. Including Tuesday’s outing, Och has had an incredible 38% strikeout rate since joining the Missions.

Peoria Chiefs 2, TinCaps 1

Key Statistics: RF Kai Murphy 1-for-4, RBI, SB (8); C Ethan Salas 1-for-4; SS Wyatt Hoffman 1-for-3, R, 2B; RHP Eric Yost 5 IP, 4 H, ER, 3 K; RHP Jose Luis Reyes (L, 1-1) 3 IP, 3 H, ER, BB, 3 K

Prospect Watch: The TinCaps had a miserable night at the plate, managing just four hits in a loss on the road in the other Peoria; in addition, TinCaps hitters struck out 16 times without drawing a walk. The game was completed in an hour and 59 minutes. … Ethan Salas extended his hitting streak to five games with a single – his only hit in four plate appearances. Salas has looked better as of late; his August slash-line of .226/.304/.419 is his best this year by quite a large margin. Coming into the month, Salas’ best slugging month was the .317 mark he posted last month. … Shortstop Wyatt Hoffman had the TinCaps’ only extra-base hit with a double. After spending most of the season in the outfield for the Storm, Hoffman has played almost exclusively on the dirt for the TinCaps since his promotion. In 11 games for Fort Wayne, the 25-year-old has a .677 OPS. … Righty Eric Yost got the start and pitched well but did not factor in the decision. The 21-year-old tossed five innings, allowing just one run on four hits. He struck out three without a walk. The righty from White Plains, New York, hasn’t missed bats with the same frequency he did with the Storm, but thus far, it has not hampered his production. He’s tossed five innings in each of his first three starts for the TinCaps while producing a solid 3.00 ERA. He’s walked five and struck out eight since his promotion to the Midwest League.

Storm 7, Rancho Cucamonga Quakes 6 (11 innings)

Key Statistics: CF Kai Roberts 2-for-5, R, 3B, 3 RBI, SB (6); 1B Lamar King Jr. 2-for-4, HR (2), SF, 2 RBI; DH Sean Barnett 1-for-5, 2 R, 2B (pro debut); 3B B.Y. Choi 2-for-4, 2 R, HR (1), BB; LHP Luis Gutierrez 3.2 IP, 6 H, 3 R (0 ER), BB, 5 K; LHP Zack Qin 1.1 IP, H, 2 K; RHP Xavier Ruiz (W, 3-2) 2 IP, R (0 ER), 2 K

Prospect Watch: The Storm blew a 5-0 lead but came back to win in extras. Lake Elsinore is 16-9 against the Quakes and has won 13 out of their last 16 against Rancho. … The big hit came off the bat of Kai Roberts, who swatted an opposite-field triple that Quakes left fielder Zyhir Hope dove for but came empty, and the hope of a Storm victory was realized. The former Utah Ute also singled, drove in three runs, and added his sixth stolen base since joining the Storm. The athletic 23-year-old has a .771 OPS in 11 games this year. … Designated hitter Sean Barnett doubled in his first professional at-bat but went hitless in his next four at-bats. Barnett, 21, was drafted out of Wingate University in the 11th round this year. The Division II start hit 26 homers in 59 games. The Padres plan to develop him as a two-way player, though he won’t see any in-game action on the mound until next year. He threw five innings for Wingate this season. When he was not pitching, Barnett played 53 games on center field. … Lamar King Jr. had a multi-hit night that included his second homer in 58 plate appearances since joining the Storm roster. The former fourth-rounder had 145 plate appearances in the ACL without a homer this season after failing to homer in each of his first two campaigns in the desert. The 20-year-old has a .810 OPS for the Storm, showing the ability to hit the ball hard to all fields. … B.Y. Choi started at third and connected on two hits, including his first Cal League homer. The 21-year-old posted a .829 OPS in the AC this year and joined the Storm roster shortly after the complex league wrapped up. He is hitting .229/.373/.396 in 13 games with the Storm.

Roster Moves: In unfortunate news, Leo De Vries hit the injured list after he injured his right shoulder diving for a ball in Saturday’s game. With three weeks left in the regular season, it is unknown if De Vries will play again this season. Sean Barnett and 2024 17th-rounder Ryan Jackson were added to the Storm roster for the stretch run.
